Where to Get CEUs for Bilingual SLPs

Finding good CEUs can be difficult especially when you want to find relevant courses that are affordable and applicable to your current job setting.  If you are coming towards the end of your ASHA CEU cycle, or if you simply want to learn more about best practices when working with culturally and linguistically diverse students then keep reading because I have compiled a list of great CEU courses/providers that every bilingual (& monolingual) SLP should look into. 

By the way, I am not affiliated with any of the CEU providers mentioned below. These are simply courses that I have marked over the years while looking for CEU courses relevant to the topic of bilingualism/multilingualism. Furthermore, the following prices/rates for each CEU course are the current prices indicated at the time this blog post was written. Rates might vary in the future. Click on the titles to view the websites. 

 

1. Bilinguistics Website

  • Membership fee: FREE on the Bilinguistics website
  • CEUs Obtained: 0.4 hours
  • Provides you with 4 courses including one on "Navigating Ethical Predicaments in Your Work with Diverse Students"
  • Great for getting some quick hours however, if you want more courses on bilingualism/multilingualism/diversity, including access to obtaining a  specialized cultural & linguistic diversity certificate then check out their CEU membership which can be found down below. 

 

 2. SLP Impact by Bilinguistics 

  • Membership fee: $99 a year
  • CEUs Obtained: 60 hours or more
  • Provides you with Biannual Conferences that are included in your membership
  • Provides Monthly Master Classes for ASHA CEUs 
  • Provides Monthly Q&A Sessions for ASHA CEUs
  • Provides 60+ Courses for ASHA CEUs in the topic of bilingualism/multicultural issues/best practices when assessing ELLs and more. 
  • Contains 100+ Downloadable Materials and Templates 
  • Provides 20+ Training Videos with Links and Downloads to share with parents and colleagues

 

 3. LEADERSProject 

  • Membership fee: FREE
  • CEUs Obtained: Approximately 3.3 CEUs
  • Courses developed by Dr. Care Crowley
  • Includes a variety of topics such as "Culturally/Linguistically Appropriate EL evaluations, Disorder, Difference, or Gap?" and more!
  • CEU credits are provided and can be submitted to CEU registry
  • Complete at your own pace courses
  • If you're looking into getting your bilingual SLP certificate, then check out their bilingual certificate extension program on their website

 

 4. SpeechTherapyPD.com 

  • Membership fee: Varies depending on option that you choose. Can range from $79-$189 a year
  • CEUs Obtained: Unlimited
  • Provides access to a variety of courses which includes Live and Interactive courses
  • There are a variety of topics to choose from and includes the topic area on "Bilingualism/Multilingualism.
  • There are about 19 available courses on the topic of bilingualism/multilingualism which includes a course called "Tips and Tricks for Working with Bilingual Students" presented by yours truly :)
  • Complete at your own pace courses & provides reporting to the ASHA CEU registry

 

5. CEU Smarthub by Lavi Institute

  • Membership fee: $89 a year OR FREE if you only want access to 2 courses which include: Ethics  and supervision
  • CEUs Obtained: Unlimited
  • Provides access to a variety of courses and their annual conferences
  • There are a variety of topics to choose from and includes the topic area on "Bilingualism/Multilingualism.
  • There are 3 really great courses bilingualism/multilingualism (i.e. "Rethinking the Bilingual Delay, Strategies for Monolingual SLPs assessing Bilingual Children & Culturally Responsive Assessment")
  • Complete at your own pace courses & provides reporting to the ASHA CEU registry

 

6. Lingraphica 

  • Membership fee: FREE
  • CEUs Obtained: About 16 hours
  • Provides access to a variety of courses on the topics of AAC
  • There are a variety of courses to choose from, including one on "AAC in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Populations." 
  • Requires the user to create a Free account with Lingraphica in order to access the courses
  • Complete at your own pace courses & provides reporting to the ASHA CEU registry

 

7. Bright Ideas Media

  • Membership fee: Can pay per course ($15) or can pay for access to one of their conferences
  • CEUs Obtained: About 8 hours per conference 
  • Provides access to a variety of courses on a variety of topics
  • They have a conference series called Culturally Responsive  Practice/ Diversity, Equity & Inclusion which includes one course on the assessment of bilinguals
  • Complete at your own pace courses & provides reporting to the ASHA CEU registry

 

8. SLP Nerdcast

  • Membership fee: $99 a year but also allows you to purchase course packs starting at $39 and up. 
  • CEUs Obtained: Varies depending on which membership option you choose. 
  • Provides access to a variety of courses on a variety of topics
  • They have 3 courses on the topics of bilingualis/multilingualism which includes 2 courses titled "Beyond Bilingualism" and one called "Solutions and Strategies to Prevent Harm in Bilingual and Multicultural Evaluations."
  • Complete at your own pace courses & provides reporting to the ASHA CEU registry
